Conservation Easements

A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust or government agency that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values. It allows the landowner to continue to own and use their land and to sell it or pass it on to heirs, with the restrictions in place.

This conservation easement was established on May 29, 2014 and permanently protects 37.72 acres of property in Sullivan County, Indiana that is owned by Joan Osburn. Joan’s recently deceased husband Wayne played a major role in helping us put the conservation easement in place. The property is locally known as “The Cliffs” thanks to its distinct topography.

Reynolds Property

This conservation easement is on 15 acres of bottomland hardwood forest along a tributary to Lost Creek in eastern Vigo County and is owned by Craig and Carole Reynolds.  It's prime habitat for many birds and other animals, including those that visit and live in the nearby Hawthorn Park & J.I. Case Wetland Wildlife Refuge.
