OLLI Bird Hike at Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve

OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ISU) Member Bird Hike at Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve with Amber Slaughterbeck, Regional Specialist for Southern Indiana Cooperative Invasives Management is on Friday, August 20, 2021, 9 - 10 AM at Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve, 1100 West Concannon Ave., West Terre Haute, IN. Membership (special summer membership is $5) and registration fee ($5) are required. Bring your binoculars as we make observations through our native woodland and prairie habitat. We will discuss the ongoing land management at the preserve to restore native habitat and provide proper nutrition for wildlife. Hiking conditions are hilly and moderate with benches along the path for resting. No facilities onsite. Jackson-Schnyder Native Preserve has ten species of prairie grasses and sedges, including Big and Little Bluestem, Indian Grass and Prairie Dropseed; and 38 species of native forbs including Wild Quinine, Dense Blazing Star, Mountain Mint, Wild Senna, Compass Plant, and Rattlesnake Master, which were all drilled into this former soybean field in June 2009.

OLLI (the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Indiana State University) is a member-centered community of adult learners that offers programs designed for men and women age 50 and "better" who wish to pursue lifelong learning in a relaxed non-competitive atmosphere with a dynamic schedule of programs and activities that includes courses, presentations, special events, and travel opportunities.
