Please join Ouabache Land Conservancy on a fall foliage hike of the John O. Whitaker Woods Nature Preserve (3801 W County Rd. 950 N, Brazil, IN 47834). The preserve’s namesake, Dr. John Whitaker and Purdue Extension Educator, Phil Cox will lead the way through this 43-acre woodland that Whitaker donated in 2021.The preserve boasts over 2,250 trees of 34 different species that have been studied and measured in 1977-78, 1993-94, and 2009-10. The most abundant species in order are: Tulip Tree, Red Hickory, Red Oak, Shagbark Hickory, White Oak, Red Maple, and American Sycamore. No reservations are required for this free family-friendly hike. Attendees are encouraged to wear long pants, hiking boots, or good tennis shoes.
