Everyone is invited to help Ouabache Land Conservancy harvest seeds from 3 species of grasses and about 40 species of wildflowers growing in the original 4-acre prairie restoration at Atherton Island Natural Area on October 25th from 9 am to Noon. The seed will be used to supplement the most recent 4-acre pollinator habitat planting adjacent to the original planting. Gathering seeds on a lovely October day is an enjoyable group activity and an excellent way to learn about the plants of our Indiana prairies. We’ll provide information on identifying plants in their autumn attire and explain how the seed harvest will be prepared for a winter or spring planting. Scissors for cutting seed clusters and paper bags for holding and storing seeds will be provided.
No reservations are needed for this free family-friendly seed harvest. We will be meeting at the preserve’s parking area at 6540 W CR 800 S, Rosedale, IN (near Lyford, about 0.7 miles east of Hwy 41).
