Honoring the Lost Creek Settlement: A Black History Month Walk at Bushnell’s North Star Woods
THIS EVENT IS FULL AND NO FURTHER RSVPs ARE BEING ACCEPTED. Ouabache Land Conservancy (OLC) invites community members to a Black History Month walk at Bushnell’s North Star Woods (4500 Hunt Road, Terre Haute) on Saturday, February 7, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., honoring the history of the Lost Creek Settlement.
Held in collaboration with the Greater Terre Haute NAACP branch, this event will be facilitated by Sylvester Edwards (NAACP branch President), Crystal Mikell Reynolds, Ph.D. (local Black Historian), Caleb Williams (CAW Engineering), Denise Marie Sobieski (OLC), and others. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about and reflect on the Lost Creek Settlement, the mix of people who made this place home, and their courage and indomitable spirit.
This family-friendly event will include a campfire and an easy walk down the old logging road, with an optional mile-long hike. A campfire gathering will be available for those who prefer not to participate in the walk. There are no restroom facilities. Due to limited parking, carpooling is encouraged, and attendees should dress for the weather.
Please RSVP or ask questions about the event by emailing Denise Marie Sobieski at dsobieski@ouabachelandconservancy.org.
